Pietro Roffi
With the accordion on his shoulder, Pietro Roffi has traveled the world. Born in 1992, he began playing the accordion at the age of six and graduated with honors and honorable mention from the “Santa Cecilia” Conservatory in Rome. He made his debut as a soloist at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome with the Orchestra of the National Academy of Santa Cecilia under the direction of Carlo Rizzari, playing a Serenade written by Oscar winner Dario Marianelli on the occasion of Ennio Morricone’s 90th birthday, in the presence of the President of the Republic.
He carried out an intense concert activity performing in more than one hundred concerts all over the world, both as a soloist and with symphonic orchestras, in prestigious halls such as the “Die Glocke” in Bremen (Germany) with the Internationalen Jugendsinfonieorchesters, where he performed the concert “Fairy Tales” for accordion and orchestra by V. Trojan, and the “Romanian Athenaeum” in Bucharest (Romania) with the National Youth Orchestra conducted by Gabriel Bebeselea, receiving praise from audiences and music critics everywhere. He also played in Lithuania, where in 2017 he made his debut with Bach’s Goldberg Variations, in Italy (where he performed, among other things, for the IUC Concerti alla Sapienza, in the Grande Eliseo Theater, in the Galleria Nazionale d’Arte Moderna e Contemporanea, for Expo Milano 2015, for Nights at Castel Sant’Angelo, for Nuova Consonanza and at the Narnia Festival), in England (Royal Academy of Music in London and in Peterborough Cathedral), in Argentina (with a sold-out tour touching thirteen cities), Malta (Bir Miftuħ International Music Festival), China (Beijing, Tianjing and Nanjing University of Arts), Australia (Melbourne and Woodend Winter Arts Festival in Victoria State), Brazil (Rio de Janeiro, at the Sala Italia and the Museu Nacional de Belas Artes), in Croatia and in Spain. In 2017 he performed in the concert suite with music for the film Anna Karenina composed by Dario Marianelli with the Roma Tre Orchestra at the Palladium Theater in Rome and at the Verdi Theater in Pordenone, under the direction of Luciano Acocella; on this occasion he met the Oscar-winning composer who called him, in November of the same year, to record the soundtrack of the film “Nome di donna” by director Marco Tullio Giordana. In 2010 he won the First Prize at the Castelfidardo International Competition (pop music cat.).
He attended seminars with instrument pioneers such as O. Murray (UK), C. Jacomucci (Italy), Y. Shishkin (Russia), F. Angelis (France), M. Rantanen (Finland), S. Hussong (Germany), CX Qing (China), R. Sviackevicius (Lithuania), I. Alberdi (Spain), A. Melichar (Austria). He held master classes as a lecturer at the National University of Music in Bucharest and recorded live concerts for national TV and radio in Romania, Italy and China.
He is annually invited to represent Italy by Italian Embassies and Cultural Institutes around the world. In September 2019 Pietro released his first solo album of original compositions (for accordion and electronics) with the Inri Classic label. He plays a Bugari Armando Prime, built in Castelfidardo. He grew up and lives in Valmontone, a town near Rome.
